EMV Migration Forum intros new implementation resources

With the U.S. migration to EMV chip technology ongoing, the EMV Migration Forum is providing additional guidance to help move the transition along, according to a press release from the forum.

The organization has introduced three new resources:

  • a Web resource for implementation of best practices;
  • the white paper, "PIN Bypass in the U.S. Market"; and
  • the white paper, "Merchant Processing during Communication Disruptions."

"Now six months post-liability shift, the EMV Migration Forum is focusing on providing stakeholders with resources that can help them address questions that arise during their chip implementations," said Forum Director Randy Vanderhoof. "These new resources are just a few of the many we will be providing this year to help stakeholders further their migrations to chip."

A searchable Web resource provides answers to common questions about best practices for implementing EMV chip technology.

This best practices resource can be used to:

  • look up industry best practices that address business objectives;
  • browse through best practice documents and white papers agreed upon and documented by the forum; and
  • suggest common business problems that could benefit from industry-wide best practices.

"PIN Bypass in the U.S. Market," addresses questions regarding the use of PIN bypass with EMV chip credit and debit cards.

This document discusses:

  • the EMV function of PIN entry bypass;
  • how it can be implemented in the U.S. market; and
  • other actions that may process transactions allowing selection of cardholder verification method, and how these actions differ from PIN entry bypass.

The free white paper was developed for terminal vendors, POS system integrators, merchants, merchant acquirers and issuers looking for guidance and explanation..

"Merchant Processing during Communication Disruptions," addresses questions that many merchants have asked about how they should process EMV chip transactions if communications are down.

The white paper outlines three processing options, including:

  • EMV offline authorization;
  • deferred authorization of a an EMV transaction; and
  • forced posting of an EMV card transaction.
