How to Use the Resources
Use these recommendations to educate your customers and cardholders, and incorporate your own ideas, too!
- Post the ATM infographic and FAQ to your website for consumer download
- Include a copy of the infographic in your next mailing or email blast about ATMs to consumers
- Post a blog on your website incorporating the messages in these resources
- Send an email to training management and ask them to share with consumer-facing staff so they can help your customers with any questions

Not sure how to use your chip card at an ATM?
Depending on the type of ATM, your experience may differ slightly. Insert your card as you normally do and follow the prompts. When the ATM says the transaction is complete, remember to take your card.

Media Communications Tips
Consumers get a lot of information from the media. Communicating accurate and consistent messages with the media is one of the easiest ways we as an industry can help educate the market on chip cards.
When talking to media this week, use these facts about using chip cards at the ATM in your speaking points:
Can consumers who don't have chip cards still use chip-enabled ATMs?
Yes, chip-enabled ATMs will continue to accept magnetic stripe cards.
What if the ATM doesn't accept chip cards?
Chip cards will still have a magnetic stripe on the back, so even if an ATM is not yet chip-enabled, consumers can use their cards as they do today.
When will consumers be able to use their chip card at all ATM locations?
Every day, more and more ATMs are becoming chip-enabled to increase security for in-person card transactions, so consumers will start to see these ATMs at many of the financial institutions they visit today. Consumers will continue to be able to use both chip-enabled and non-chip-enabled ATMs with the same card.
Where can consumers go to learn about chip cards at the ATM?
Consumers looking to learn about chip can find answers to common questions at GoChipCard.com. It teaches how to identify a chip card, why consumers are receiving them, and how to use a chip card in stores and at ATMs.
